On Tuesday our Financial Planners Kirsty Watson and Shelley McMillan were invited to UHI Inverness for the kick off of this years Future Asset competition.

Future Asset educate girls across Scotland about the Investment Management industry. Encouraging more young women to seek career opportunities within the Finance Industry.

Did you know, until recently there were more UK fund managers called Dave than there were female fund managers. #BudgeUpDave

It was great to see the enthusiasm and confidence in the room and we cannot wait to see how each team does in the first round.

This week our Director Kirsty Watson was invited as the Keynote speaker at the DYW Moray Elgin Academy Alumni.

Former pupil Kirsty spoke about some memories of her school days and her path from Elgin Academy to the role she does now. Kirsty talked about learning on the job, professional qualifications and getting a degree later in life. She also talked about why a career in financial services could be a good option for school leavers now.

Today we celebrate International Women's Day

Did you know that despite several regime shifts to encourage more female Financial Advisers within the industry a freedom of information request submitted last year by FTAdviser found that only 1 in 6 Financial Advisers are female.

As a firm we are proud to take a proactive approach to supporting the professional development of young women in financial advice. We certainly do not fall within the statistic of 1 in 6. In fact 5 of our 8 planning team are women with 2 of them being Financial Advisers.

Kirsty Watson - Financial Adviser and Director at Watson Wood started Watson Wood Financial Planning along with our other 2 directors 7 years ago. Kirsty has worked in the financial advice industry for over 24 years.

Shelley McMillan - Financial Adviser joined Watson Wood in 2022 making the move from a national wealth advice firm. Shelley has worked in the finance industry for over 18 years.

We are recruiting for a Trainee Administrator aimed at a school or college leaver. The role would suit someone wanting to start a career in Financial Services, as an Administrator or starting the journey to become a Financial Adviser. An equivalent career progression that someone might take if wanting to go into accountancy.

We are looking to interview in the coming weeks however, can be flexible with start dates, we are aware that some students may be sitting exams into May.

Please contact Christina@watsonwoodfp.co.uk for further information.
